Reviews

DESOLATE - EVENTIDE OF THE ORB AND HEAVENS - X-RATED
Originally released on cassette in Bulgaria in 1998, the second album of the band that had been in existence since 1992, is now upon us with updated artwork on CD and hence serves as an introduction to a bigger audience. Desolate is in the same rank and file as an Aurora or Dark Tranquility (not as good as the former and of course much superior to the latter) and deliver an atmosphere-laden metal which, while occasionally fast, emphasizes the mid pace. The vocals are menacing and the use of the keyboard and other such obligatory detritus is kept to a minimum. Not half bad then, and given the band's country of origin probably worth a look at for wonderers and fans of the above-mentioned bands. - Ali "The Metallian"
