History
Calling themselves Viking Metal, Norway's Einherjer was named after the
mythical Nordic martyr ascended to Valhalla. The band was formed in
western Norway, at a party of Ivar Bjornson of Enslaved, in 1993 and
released the Aurora Borealis EP on Warmageddon/Necropolis after the
demo
of the same material.
The band's first ever gig was supporting Enslaved in 1994. The band
also
had a 7" on Necromantic Gallery/Damnation of The Netherlands in 1995.
The first full-length was Dragons Of The North and appeared in 1996.
This was recorded and mixed during the spring and summer of 1996 at the
infamous Grieghallen Studio. In 1997 released the Far Far North 7"
which
was actually a re-recorded version of the Leve Vikingånden 7". The band
underwent a line-up change and a new singer and bassist (Elden) are
recruited. In 1999 the band lost its Century Media deal after a
relatively negative reaction to Odin...
The band formed their own Native North label and record Norwegian
Native
Art. Herløe became the second guitarist on Norwegian Native Art. The
band supported King Diamond during the European tour of House Of God.
2001 meant the band would go to the USA for Metal Meltdown III and The
Milwaukee Metal Fest.
The band members formed an extreme side-project called Angelgrinder on
Native North Records. A new three-song demo was recorded in 2002 for
promotional purposes.
The band officially threw in the towel in January, 2004.
