History & Biography
The band was the idea of guitarist Gabriel Brault-Pilon who was looking to initiate a side-project away from his time in Senseless Shell. He found Phil Tougas and they named the act First Fragment. Tougas himself is the master of polygamy. They did not have to go far to find a singer. Gabriel’s brother was recruited.

Canada’s First Fragment signed with Unique Leader Records for the release of its as-yet-untitled debut full-length in November of 2014, which was set for 2015. The Montreal-area band was formed in 2007, but was hampered by a shifting line-up and a lack of drummers. Demos appeared in 2008, 2009 and 2010. The first two were the results of one recording session. In the meanwhile Tougas would be recruited into Senseless Shell as well.

Savary was recruited on bass. He was a childhood friend of Tougas. The band sings and writes lyrics in French. The Canadian “neoclassical-influenced technical death metal” band would release its debut full-length, entitled Dasein, on May 20th through Unique Leader Records. Drummer Phil Boucher had departed just prior to the recording session. Troy Fullerton sessioned. Samuel Santiago was on drums as a permanent member next. Gabriel Brault-Pilon and Vincent Savary were replaced by Nick Miller and Dominic "Forest" LaPointe respectively in 2016. Switzerland-based Virvum toured the United States alongside Vale Of Pnath and First Fragment. The tour began on September 29th in Chicago, and ran through October 26th, 2017 ending in Denver, Colorado. The band toured in Canada with Archspire in 2018 and Obscura in Europe in 2019.

Gloire Eternelle was supported through a video for the song Gloire Eternelle. Its story revolved around a demigod called Canevas. Singer David was writing a book around the demigod’s story. The band had a new second guitarist, bassist and drummer for this record. Tougas printed the album on a limited edition golden cassette on his TSO imprint as well.

The band prides itself on being impure and incorporating other genres like flamenco and prog rock. The titles and lyrics are in French. Phil Tougas is in a band called D.D.T. with his father.
