Reviews GALLOWS END - NEMESIS DIVINE - FARVAHAR
At first glance, Gallows End looked like a white metal band seeing that the disc begins with a Biblical passage and the album’s distribution is though the Christian Nightmare Records. But instead, it sounds like this is a fully committed heavy metal band with the packaging, sound and looks that goes with it. The sound is strong and guitar-oriented. The members are split between the good-looking metal image and the short hair nerds. The good news and the positive assessment is based on the pure and undiluted heavy metal sound.
OK granted the material is very accessible and too pleasing to the ears for heavy metal, but Gallows End (wasn’t that a Candlemass song?) is pure metal with tight guitars, loads of soloing and a singer whose sing-alongs can only make for a good live show. My favourite moments are Set The World In Flames and Not Your Own and even Different Eyes, which strangely all reside in the middle of the disc. The album ends with the longest track Riders Of The North abut the Vikings and their conquests. The band is Swedish so that is fine too. It is good to see such straightforward metal acts in 2010. - Sheila Wes Det
