History

Hughes is a veteran of Trapeze, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, among others, who over time has managed to work on his solo career. Born in Cannock, England, Hughes came to prominence on Deep Purple's 1974 album Burn. He left Deep Purple in 1976.
More recently Hughes has been involved with Joe Lynn Turner in the Hughes Turner Project (HTP) which has formed the reason for much touring. He is also part of the revolving cast of The Legends Of Rock which means more recording and touring. Born in 2002, Shape 68 is a pop band featuring Hughes, drummer Robin DiMaggio and guitarist Jeff Kollman.
Hughes is also the proprietor of Pink Cloud Records.
2004 brought the Soulfully Live In The City Of Angels CD and DVD.
Heavy metal fans should approach his output selectively as the output oscillates between metal, pop and funk.

Reviews

GLENN HUGHES - BUILDING THE MACHINE - STEAMHAMMER
'It's been so long...I don't know how long I've been gone,' sings Hughes on Don't Let It Slip Away and so it may seem to most Canadian fans. For Hughes is the singer and bassist best known for his celebrated work with the likes of Trapeze, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Phenomena in years past. Less publicized is Hughes' solo career spanning 25 years and many albums where Hughes lets loose and intermittently delves into his many loves, hard rock, rock, soul and the blues. Building The Machine is another such album. Be it poppier moments (Big Sky), Deep Purple flashbacks (Highball Shooter), the albums best moment on the powerful hard rocking belter (Don't Let It Slip Away) or the funkier songs which could fit on any of the Living Color albums, Hughes proves that he has it in him to release an album full of talent and gusto. - Ali "The Metallian"
