History

The band was formed in 1991. Soon after releasing The Christhunt on the always-struggling Shark Records band leader Sattler dissolved the band and set about releasing an album and touring with his new band Ministry Of Terror.

Finding new members, Sattler resurrected the black/death metal act and signed to Metal Blade. The Grand Grimoire is supported on the road opening for Six Feet Under. Bloody Blasphemy was supported by opening for Immortal and later Morbid Angel. God Dethroned also took the stage that year at the Eindhoven and Wacken festivals. The band opened for Cannibal Corpse in the USA as well as with Ritual Carnage in Japan. The Christhunt was re-released with a new cover. That label (Cold Blood Industries) released the band's demo called The Ancient Ones on CD in 2000. The band appeared at the No Mercy Festival in 2001 with The Crown's Janne Saarenpää on drums.

In 2002 God Dethroned participated at the Fuck The Commerce Festival in Germany replacing Benediction. Furthermore the band announced it is entering Sweden's Berno Studio to record a new album called The Universal Slavedriver.

The new album emerged in February, 2003 under the Into The Lungs Of Hell title. It was produced and mixed by Henrik Larsson (Amon Amarth, etc.). American fans saw the band at the New Jersey Metal Fest held on March 7, 8 and 9.

The band entered Berno Studio in Malmö, Sweden on July 14th, 2004 to record a new album. It was also announced that bassist Beef was replaced by newcomer Henk. The band was also confirmed for the Occult Fest 2004, a two-day event set to take place September 3-4 in Hoogeveen, The Netherlands. The Toxic Touch was issued in November.

Reviews

GOD DETHRONED - INTO THE LUNGS OF HELL - METAL BLADE
Metal Blade's European death metal signings tread similar paths, have more or less the same frameworks and are all similarly good bands. Inhabiting the same plane as Vomitory, Amon Amarth or Callenish Circle, the Dutch veterans God Dethroned have exhaled a heavy album with pure intentions. Armed with a strong sound, but impeded by a cliché cover artwork, Into The Lungs Of Hell kicks off with the slow title track before belting out a harmonious, yet brutal, song called The Warcult. This song sets the stage for an album chock full of heavy riffs, deadly melodies and merciless vocals. The lyric sheet takes the time to explain the meaning behind each song - which is something more bands should do. God Dethroned is a band on the rise. That is a good thing, given the band's undefiled nature. - Ali "The Metallian"
