History & Biography
Doom and heavy metal band Sabbtail was founded in Värmland in Western Sweden in 1996. The two Jannes (both formerly of Sweden-based Necronomicon) were in charge. Empire Music in the USA released the debut album, but more importantly Canyon International, a subsidiary of Pony Canyon, gave the release a whirl in Japan. A Harald Lund was the session drummer. The band considered the Japanese release unauthorized and claimed the label pressed its demos as an album.

The second album went through Massacre Records in Europe, which came to nothing. There was a five-year gap between the records as well, which actually meant that only Janne and Janne had remained from the earlier line-up. The members explained that there were problems with Empire that contributed to the delay.

Mike-for-hire Mats Levén sang on the second one. The group folded, but not before naming a singer called Kent Ploog and drummer Fredrik Frykman. Singer Eklund surfaced in a band called Universe III in 2024.

There are no prizes for guessing that the group was influenced by 1970s' heavy rock and hard rock. The monicker 'Sabbtail' was based on a character written over the years by keyboardist Bingegård.
