Reviews SUBSONIC - SUPER-VEL - OUTLAW
Subsonic is the band of former Celtic Frost guitarist Ron Marks.
Judging by
the lack of credits on the album he takes on all instruments on this
third
album of Subsonic. The album kicks off with a couple of songs that are
best
describes as Ministry-meets-The Cult. They are accompanied mostly by a
drum
machine and alternate between various moods. A Day Late is a slower
song
with uneven lead work. New Age Freak Of Nature has an effect
reminiscent of
Motley Crue's Kickstart My Heart. Song number eight, entitled Jane, has
a
vocal melody very similar to Bananarama's Cruel Summer! There are
wailing
and sliding guitars all over this. Indeed Super-vel is an album with
both
slow, fast, quiet and rocking material. This writer is reminded of the
recent album by former Megadeth drummer Nick Menza though. While his
work
within a band context was respectable, once free to conduct his own
album he
delivers an album of sub-par material akin to a collection of unrelated
out-takes. 'I got a song and it aint got no melody and I am going to
sing it
to my friends,' is a nice quotation from the album.
