XTRUNK – FULL CONFESSION – MANITOU/PERVADE
The album begins with a short instrumental intro that displays an original guitar sound and could easily be followed by a bombastic, yet melodic, heavy metal explosion. Instead, the band changes pace and dives headfirst into a slamming, moshable, aggressive metal that is a heavier shade of Pantera. It could have easily been a ‘zero’ right there just for that, but Xtrunk (what?) is heavier and mixes in sounds that could also be attributed to Dying Fetus and Internal Bleeding. Full Confession – a photo of a US foreign aid assistance office on the cover – is bottom-heavy to the maximum and full-bodied. The vocals are gruff, dry, and occasionally fused with a second set of larynx. This is pretty heavy material and forgoes the usual niceties the intro excepted. One of the better tracks is at the very end, Painted With Vulgarity. – Anna Tergel
